Festival Season
Fremantle Arts Centre is pleased to have two separate programs featured in this year's Perth Festival. IASKA's Spaced: art out of place, is a biennale exhibition showing work by Australian and overseas artists inspired by 16 regional WA communities. Spaced includes sound, video, sculpture, photography and drawing works which reflect on the struggles, beauty and humanity of each location. The history of the infamous Victoria Hotel in Roebourne is captured in a video work by Sohan Ariel Hayes and Michael Woodley (WA). The Abrolhos Islands are celebrated in Nigel Helyer's big-scale model cray boat, with sound, suspended from the ceiling. Spaced
occupies the whole ground floor, North and South wings. Spaced opens tonight 6:30pm Friday 3 February.
Soft Soft Loud: The Americas presents the finest contemporary music for ensemble from North and South America, outdoors in the Inner Courtyard, in a night of Australian premieres. Golijov's achingly beautiful Ayre offers the treat of dazzling mezzo-soprano Dimity Shepherd accompanied by two grand pianos and ensemble outdoors. Soft Soft Loud, Sunday 12 February, will be the highlight of FAC's summer music program. Tickets are selling fast.
West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) returns in 2012 to Courtyard Music, 2pm Sunday 19 February (free). Performing works by Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe, Elena Kats-Chernin and West Australian, James Ledger as well as Mozart, Sibelius and Schubert, the WASO show will be a beautiful concert of fine classical music from WA's premier orchestra. Courtyard Music is sponsored by Bendigo Bank Fremantle with the WASO concert sponsored by Fremantle Ports.
I am pleased, no, ecstatic really, that we now offer online enrolments in FAC courses.
It's quick and convenient. You can enrol online now!
