Soft Soft Loud, Primavera & Free WiFi all at FAC
Welcome to our second e-news.
Soft Soft Loud, our fabulous series of intimate concerts, kicks off tonight with local hybrid ensemble, fused and special guest Mama Kin. Featuring the amazing talents of percussionist Paul Tanner, who last week was guest performer with the Bang On a Can All-Stars, Matt Hoy on cello, Matt Styles on saxophone and Mark Coughlin on piano, fused perform a mix of pop, Latin, classical, and contemporary repertoire. Tonight’s show includes Chick Corea’s Spain and La Fiesta, Piazzolla's, Le Grand Tango and the premiere of a solo percussion work by Paul Tanner.
The other Soft Soft Loud shows throughout March are;
Thur 17 Sticks and Tones an all-percussion shows with maverick Brisbane duo, Clocked Out.
Thur 24 Lives of Nine – a modern string band with jazz, post minimalist and rock influences.
Thur 31 Australian Brass Quintet
Acclaimed WA composer, Iain Grandage's new works that reflects on WA history and the Indian Ocean will be premiered across the whole series.
Tickets are $35 or $25 with concession ($100 season ticket) available at the door from 7pm, or pre-booked at Reception on 9432 9555.

In July look out for PRIMAVERA 2010: Exhibition by Young Australian Artists, touring from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Primavera is a curated annual exhibition of the best up-and-coming young Australian artists. Primavera is a definite must-see for anyone interested in new edgy Australian art, and we are extremely proud to be partnering with the MCA for Primavera's first tour to WA.

WHAT'S COMING UP AT FAC
Soft Soft Loud 2011
The 2011 season of Soft Soft Loud starts tonight, with a special collaboration between chamber ensemble fused and Fremantle's blues and roots singer Mama Kin. Soft Soft Loud continues on Thursday 17, 24 and 31 March with intimate open-air concerts featuring some of Australia's most talented musicians. Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start, tickets $35/$25 concession. Buy presale from Fremantle Arts Centre or arrive early to purchase on the door.

Exhibitions Opening
On Friday 25 March, come down to FAC and catch the first glimpse of our new exhibitions. From 6:30pm, we'll be opening our doors and welcoming guests to celebrate exhibitions by Patrick Doherty, Benjamin Forster, Olga Cironis and a group show of Chinese video works, The Knife's Edge: video recently seen in Beijing. Courtyard Music
Courtyard Music continues every Sunday until the end of March, with free concerts on the shady lawn from 2pm. We celebrated a huge event this month with WASO, giving 2,800 FAC punters a rare opportunity to see this celebrated orchestra for free. Come down this Sunday for Sal Kimber & The Rollin' Wheel, and check out the remaining dates in March on our website.

FACPA11 Call for Entries
The Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award supported by Little Creatures Brewing is one of the country's most presitigious annual art prizes. Entries are now being accepted, and we encourage artists working in the diverse medium of print to consider applying for the 2011 award. Prizes include the $12 000 Acquisitive Prize and the $5 000 Non-Acquisitive Prize. Entries close on 13 June.

Primavera to FAC
We are extremely pleased to announce that Fremantle Arts Centre will host the touring exhibition, PRIMAVERA 2010: Exhibition by Young Australian Artists. An initative of the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Sydney, PRIMAVERA 2010 was curated by Katie Dyer, Curator at the National Art School, Sydney. The exhibition features artists Akira Akira (SA), Julie Fragar (QLD), Agatha Gothe-Snape (NSW), Alasdair McLuckie (VIC), James Newitt (TAS), Jackson Slattery (VIC), and Emma White (NSW).
PRIMAVERA 2010 runs 30 July - 18 September 2011. |

Meet Charlotte
Our new Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award Coordinator, Charlotte Hickson, started last week at FAC. She's working on the 2011 Award, and will facilitate the applications, judging, installation and presentation of the entries in this prestigious award. To find out more about the Award, check out our website. The winners are announced at the exhibition opening on Friday 22 September, and the exhibition runs Saturday 23 September til Sunday 20 November.
